R is for Richard

My plan for the A - Z Challenge is to write every post as if it were a diary entry by a character from my WIP. Today's post comes from Leah Walker.

I've worked in a lot of places, but I've never had a boss like Richard Bailey. He's a dream. If there's something you need, he'll go out of his way to help you, and it wouldn't even occur to him to ask for anything in return. His passion for his team is like nothing I've ever seen before, and it's amazing to be a part of something so special.

When I first met him, I was terrified. I really thought he'd be a scary manager, like the ones you see on TV, screaming at players whenever they do the smallest thing wrong. Richard doesn't work that way. He's laid back, and it earns him a lot of respect. You'd think that being so easy going would mean the players walked all over him, but instead, they work harder.

Richard sort of ... adopted me when I joined the team. I think he feels protective of me because I'm so far away from home. It's like having an extra dad to turn to! My move from Boston to L.A was made so much easier because of him, and I will always be grateful for that.

    Aww, so sweet of Leah to say Richard is like having a second dad to turn to. He sounds awesome. Why have I never had a boss like Richard?

    Excellent entry. Richard sounds like such a cool boss, and I love the way Leah talks about him. You can really feel the affection she has for Richard, and it's great she has someone in L.A to rely on.

    Richard sounds excellent! I always prefer a laid back leader over a power-hungry tyrant: you'll always work harder for the former!

    It's so sweet that Leah sees him as a second dad :')

    Richard is Leah's soccer coach? You've got me intrigued by the plot. I have a great boss and that is a rare, beautiful thing.

    A good boss is hard to find, and a gem to be treasured when you do find them! I've had some pretty rude/annoying 'managers' or bosses in my time but nothing truly awful.

    That's a good technique - seeing characters from another character's POV. Richard sounds ideal :-)

    Lovely character! When I get stuck, I interview my characters (I used to be a psychologist) and get them to tell me about their past. This is a lovely way to develop them! New follower - from N Devon!

IWSG: Books Sales

IWSG time! I'd like to start by thanking Alex J. Cavanaugh for this fab bloghop, and today in particular, it is just the motivation I need to get me blogging again! Today, I'm talking book sales. Now, I don't really know if there is any kind of "average" amount of books sales when you're an indie author. I don't know what is considered a good amount of book sales per month, or whether I am doing better or worse than others. What I do know, is that I am happy with the amount of books I've sold. I self-published because I want people to read my work - and people are reading it - yay! My concern is - what if the sales stop? I know after a time, everyone's book sales will slow down, but I have this fear that I'll check my sales every couple of weeks to find that nobody cares about reading my books anymore.The dreaded 0 will show on my Kindle sales, and I will plummet into a pit of despair. Camp NaNo Update, and details

To begin with, I want to say thanks again to Emily for allowing me onto her blog as a blogging mentor! Being interviewed is always fun, and Emily is awesome! So, to Camp NaNo! Four days in and I'm still on track! Well, I will be when I finish today's writing. :D I mentioned a while ago that I was planning to battle boy POV, and I'm doing my best to get through it. However, it is hard, so I decided to turn my NaNo story into dual POV so it will be 50% less difficult! I'm not against cheating to get the work done. :p Just to give you a quick recap on what I'm doing for NaNo: In Game On, I have a young soccer player named Jesse Shaw, and he proved quite popular during the A-Z challenge. So, I decided he needed his own spin-off story! It's set at the end of the soccer season, when Jesse and his best friend go to London.
