C is for Cuteness

My plan for the A - Z Challenge is to write every post as if it were a diary entry by a character from my WIP. Today's post comes from Bree Collinson.

**

I love, love, love making new friends! My hubby, Jude, thinks I have more than enough already, but like I told him, a girl can never have too many friends, clothes or shoes. I mean, what if I left that perfect pair of Jimmy Choos in the shop, then needed them later to go with my new Alberta Ferretti? Disaster, right?

Anyway, what was I saying? Oh, right, new friends! A couple weeks ago, I met Taylor. She's dating Westberg's latest cutie pie, Jesse Shaw, and she is SO MUCH FUN! It's cool to have someone real close to my own age around. I don't know if we'll be swapping secrets or anything, but she knows how to have a good time, and that's what I like!

Today, I made another friend, her name's Leah and she's the new physiotherapist. She couldn't help me fix my broken nail, but she did make me a cup of coffee and we chatted for like ... hours! Well, maybe not hours, but a long time, and I already feel like she's my big sister because she didn't mind listening while I went on and on about Jude. She says we can meet for lunch on her next day off, and I can't wait!

  1. I love Bree she is adorable. Her bubbly, fun personality really shines through in this diary entry. :D

  2. Oh I've met people like this. Again great voice. Creating a good voice is a skill that is hard to master and you have.

  3. Oh wow. She is... chipper, lol. I agree with the previous commenters: you can really see her voice and personality from this snippet. Haha, she definitely woke me up (it's 6am here). :-)

  4. Nothing like friends who know how to have a good time! :D

  5. Bree sounds a little distracted, but in a very cute way :)

  6. She's an interesting character.

  7. LOL to asking a physiotherapist to fix a broken nail! Now, who wouldn't love that girl? I am loving these posts!

  8. To me, she sounds like the girl who'd be waiting outside your work everyday for lunch, and then for coffee, and then follow you home...

  9. Her voice shines in this. I cracked up reading how leaving the perfect pair of Jimmy Choo's at the store would have been a disaster. That is great! lol.

Good Luck with the A-Z challenge. I shied away and consider you very brave :)

  10. "Jimmy Choos in the shop, then needed them later to go with my new Alberta Ferretti?"

I have no idea what his means. I'm going to take jummy Choos as cockney rhyming slang and Alberta Feffetti as some sort of wrestler.

Or it's some sort of women's clothing that for strangely enough, I have no idea about.

  11. Bree sounds like a cute character. You have a nice way of establishing character voice and I love that.

  12. That's true, you can never have enough friends.

  13. Hi, Kyra! This is a great theme idea for A to Z! I like your character's voice. Bree sounds young and hip with a big personality!

Nice to meet you and happy A to Z!

  14. Cute post! You know, I actually know someone who said that to me once-- she likes to collect friends.

  15. This is a great way to encourage people to read your work - inspired, I'd say:-)

  16. This keeps getting better and better. I can't wait for tomorrow.

  17. Gotta love a good cup of coffee. I love this idea for the A-Z Challenge! Can't wait for the next addition. :)

Stopping by from the A-Z Challenge. Hello!

  18. She is indeed very cute! Lol. Reminds me of one of my BFFs.

  19. My god, give that girl some tranquilizers. She's so hyper.
    She's a good character, although I think I hate her. x3

  20. Haha, I with McKenzie. I'm so not the super bubbly type. (Although I have a feeling one of my CP's and best friends is like this in person) But great voice and contrast to your last character. ;0)

  21. What a great idea! I'll want to read the complete work long before you get to Z!

  22. Totally loving your A to Z's!!! I'm thinking voice is a piece of cake for you :)

  23. In my head, she has this super-high-pitched voice and is dressed in pink. You paint pictures very well, and that's half the battle! Sounds like the physiotherapist has found herself a new subject!

  24. What a fun character. No wonder she has so many friends! At first I thought you were talking about yourself.

  25. I like upbeat fun characters :)

  26. What a great idea - I may steal it for next year! ;-)

New follower here. I’m enjoying reading my fellow “A to Z”ers. I look forward to visiting again.

  30. Thanks, everyone! Seems there were mixed reactions to Bree and her bubbly nature! She is a little more toned down in the actual story - unless she is excited about something lol. :D

  31. Oh yes, I can just see her, twinkling through life. She's blonde, isn't she? (I'm blonde so that discounts any discrimination here!). You know? My new novel has a Jude as the m/c and a Leah in it :-)

IWSG: Performance anxiety

Welcome to the August edition of IWSG, hosted by the amazing Alex J.Cavanaugh ! So, as most of you know by now - because I haven't shut up about it LOL - my first novel, Game On, has been released. The blog tour officially starts next week (YAY!) but I find myself becoming increasingly nervous. A blog tour not only highlights my book, but me. What if people don't like me? What if my guest posts suck, and everyone thinks I'm boring? If I can't engage people in 300 words on a blog, they probably aren't going to pick up my book. And then there's the "what happens next" question. I plan to make Game On into a series, which feels a bit arrogant of me. I don't know how many people are going to like the first book, should I really be planning to keep the series going? So far, Game On has actually been incredibly well received. I've had great reviews, so maybe I shouldn't worry about people not liking it, but what if Book Two isn't as goo...

IWSG: Am I doing it right? And does anyone care?

Happy IWSG Day! This genius idea created by Alex J. Cavanaugh is a place for all of us insecure writers to gather together to talk about our worries, and cheer each other on. Check out the full list of participants here ! Think right now about your favourite writers. How do you feel when you know they have a new book being released? It's usually something like, "HURRY UP, I CAN'T WAIT ANYMORE!" right? And also, think about when one of your super talented blog buddies announces they've got a book coming out soon. That is even more exciting because it's someone you know, someone you may have seen struggling to reach their goal of publication. Someone you've seen go through the rough times, and have finally made it to where they want to be. I can tell you that when Jolene Perry, or Nyrae Dawn announce a book release - I bounce up and down like a crazy person! These two awesome ladies are writers I absolutely adore for their ability to write so natural...

GUTGAA Meet and Greet!

Oh, I have SO been looking forward to this!! But, before I start, I need to send a huge apology to Emily R.King and Melodie Wright. I signed up to their What I Did Last Summer Bloghop , but it looks like I'm not going to have the time to participate. :( I've never backed out of a bloghop before, but as you may have noticed, I've been kind of out of the blogging loop for a while and now I'm struggling to catch up! Please go and check out Emily and Melodie's hop, though - it's fun! :D NOW, onto GUTGAA! This amazing blogfest was put together by Deana Barnhart , and was designed to help writers in their quest to find an agent, plus help form connections between writers. The idea is genius and I am so excited to be a part of it! So, I am going to begin with the meet and greet questions, and I'll be hopping around to other blogs later! :D Bio : Kyra Lennon was born on the South coast of England, and to this day, still lives by the sea.
