I am having a mini nervous breakdown trying to understand the tax information for non U.S publishers on Amazon. Is there anyone out there who has dealt with it who can give me an idiot's guide to what it all means please? Is it as complicated as it looks, or am I just really, really stupid? LOL! Any help would be muchly appreciated, thanks1
IWSG time! I'd like to start by thanking Alex J. Cavanaugh for this fab bloghop, and today in particular, it is just the motivation I need to get me blogging again! Today, I'm talking book sales. Now, I don't really know if there is any kind of "average" amount of books sales when you're an indie author. I don't know what is considered a good amount of book sales per month, or whether I am doing better or worse than others. What I do know, is that I am happy with the amount of books I've sold. I self-published because I want people to read my work - and people are reading it - yay! My concern is - what if the sales stop? I know after a time, everyone's book sales will slow down, but I have this fear that I'll check my sales every couple of weeks to find that nobody cares about reading my books anymore. The dreaded 0 will show on my Kindle sales, and I will plummet into a pit of despair. It hasn't happened yet, but Game On has onl...
That totally sucks!
ReplyDeleteI live in America, and it's annoying how everything seems to sort of revolve around the US market...
Hope you get the help you need.
Sorry, I can't help, I'm in the same position as you - trying to find the info. I found this:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/Taxes/LeavingOrComingIntoTheUK/DG_10026136
but it doesn't answer the US question (just Europe, I think) and also seems to expect you to be employed, not self-employed. I'm thinking I'll just phone the tax office and see it they know.
Please share (and I'll do the same) if you find out anything more.
If in doubt, just do what Annalisa above is doing. Call up your tax office or shoot off an email to your IRS equivalent. That way you'll get it straight from the horse's mouth instead of second guessing yourself.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! :)
Yeah, I'm having a similar issue. If you do get it resolved, can you write a post about it?
ReplyDeleteDeep breaths! And.. I have no idea, but I know you'll figure it out! Then you can share with all the rest of us! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I can't say anything useful. That government site might be a good start, and maybe even contacting Amazon directly. OH wait ... I have a friend who publishes on Amazon. Let me ask her.
ReplyDeleteHi Kyra .. I'm not in that position at all - so I'll say very good luck .. cheers Hilary
