Bloghop of Joy

Good morning! It's time for the Bloghop of Joy!, hosted by myself and Clare Dugmore!

In these cold, winter months, everything can seem kind of ... bleak. However, every now and again, something small will happen that makes us smile again. It could be a random memory, something you see on TV, overhearing something that makes you laugh out loud - just that one thing that makes the clouds part, and the sunshine appear again. We're not talking life-changing moments, just the little things that inexplicably make us smile.

All you have to do to be a part of this happy hop is sign up on the Linky List, and on March 1st, post your list of joy - with a minimum of five things that put a spring back in your step!

So, what is on my list?

The Ducktales theme tune
Seriously, I can be in the worst mood ever, but as soon as I hear this, everything seems better!

The sound of a baby laughing
Is there anything more adorable than the chuckle of a small child? Puts a smile on my face every time!

Yoghurt covered raisins
I discovered these by mistake, but they have become my favourite thing to nibble on when I'm working. :D

Anything that is even vaguely related to Christmas
I am a real Christmas junkie. If I had my own place, I'd probably be one of those people with an inflatable snowman in the garden, and flashing lights in every window LOL! Okay, maybe I wouldn't go QUITE that far, but Christmas is my absolute favourite time of year. It's so cosy, and happy!

Flash mobs
I love watching these online, but if you happen to be present when a flash mob is happening live - that is a joy you NEVER forget! I once witnessed one in Exeter from a theatre group, it was fabulous! Unfortunately, I didn't capture it on film, so here is one of my favourites on YouTube!

Unexpected phonecalls from friends
It's great when you're just chilling out at home, and the phone rings - and it's a call from a friend you haven't spoken to in a while that you weren't expecting. :D

Chinese takeaway
I don't think I need to elaborate!

Vacuuming
I am risking becoming a total outcast by admitting this but I LOVE vacuuming. Love it. Disturbing confession approaching... Once when I was on a day out with my friend, we went into the gift shop to have a look around before we went home, and I, embarrassingly said, "Someone's vacuuming, I can smell a Dyson." Apparently, I am a loser who can tell the difference between brands of vacuum cleaners! *slinks away, hanging head in shame*

New notebooks
Honestly, ask anyone who has ever been in Paperchase or Staples with me, and they will tell you just how much joy I get from just looking at new notebooks, with their pretty covers and their unmarked awesomeness!

Okay, that's enough dodgy confessions from me LOL! I will be hopping around to the other participants this evening - I can't wait! Don't forget to visit everyone else on the list, all the links are below!

  1. Vacuuming? Hey, whatever works for you. Though you live far away, you're welcome to come over and vacuum my house any time you want! :)

  2. Oops! Just noticed I'd forgotten to do the linky. Hope it's there now :) Now, I'm going to have that song stuck in my head for days! And I love Christmast too. One of my never-needs-to-really-come-true wishes is to have a cute, year around Christmas store. Want to join me? ;)

  5. Good god woman you are sappy as furk. LOL. Who on earth likes vacuuming?

I will side with you on the Duck Tales theme song, though, it's epic. That and the Pokemon theme song tie as the best ever!

Have a great day, grandma! ;)

  10. Pizza is one of the things that brings me joy especially when I haven't had any for a while. Ditto chocolate.

Kyra, all the best with the Bloghop of Joy. Anything that brings joy to life gets my vote

  11. I saw the COOLEST spiral notebook cover ever at Kmart yesterday. I so wanted to buy it, but I didn't cause of the $4 price tag.

It had this hologram cover that was so realistic. The cover looked like it had a depth of about 2". It was blueish, so it was like looking into a 2" deep pond.

And it's totally weird to hold something flat like that and it is so realistically looks like that depth was there. I stared at it for about 5 minutes. I wish I would've bought it. But then I'd have to just set it on my shelf and look at it. :)

  12. Flash mobs are so cool - I'd love to see one for real!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Ha ha! Kyra your list is awesome. I love Chinese take out too. And one day, I want to see a flash mob just happen in person. I think that would be amazing!!

When Faith was a baby, I recorded the sound of her laugh and left it as a voice message on The Husband's cell. He saved it and played it over and over whenever his job was getting to him. TO this day, Faith still, has the absolute best laugh you ever want to hear. When she laughs hard it comes straight from her belly. It's infectious!

Thank you so much for hosting this blog hop. Really feeling the joy this morning!! Yay!!

  14. I love flash mobs; they make me happy, too. And new notebooks? What could be better? :)

    Have a great weekend!

  15. You had me at DuckTales. I haven't heard that theme song in a long time, but I still remember all the words.

And I'm totally with you on the brand new notebooks thing. I can't go into an office supply place with looking and, most likely, buying.

  16. Love flash mobs and Chinese take away! And I have a short clip of my son laughing for the first time when he was just a baby, it's so cute. <3 Have a great weekend!

  17. New notebooks rock and flash mobs- that looks awesome. Thank you for sharing!

  18. Chinese take out is always a winner! And you'd make a fine Christmas elf.

  19. Krya,

I love flash mobs too, and Christmas, well who can argue with the birtday of Jesus and Joy to the World, one of my favorite carols. Enjoying all the joy being spread around today.

  22. I LOVE new notebooks! Oh my gosh, September is one of my favorite times just because of all the school supplies in every store! (I thought that was just me.) :)
I love everything on your list. Except vacuuming. I seriously hate vacuuming. Almost every room in my house is either wood floors or tile so I can sweep and not vacuum!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I also love new notebooks! And now I'm really hungry for Chinese LOL. Thanks for hosting this fun hop!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I LOVE the Duck Tales. It was my favorite show after school and that theme song puts a smile on my face. Great hop!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I LOVE vacuuming too! I actually posted that fact once on my blog, glad I'm not the only one. It's very satisfying isn't it? Sorry I couldn't join in today but it seems to have been a great hop and I have managed to catch quite a few entries.

  26. Fantastic list! Duck Tales was awesome, and yeah, babies laughing are too cute. You might be a vacuum superhero! Flash mobs are so much fun. I'd love to be part of one. I'm sick of seeing the Harlem Shake thing, though.

  27. Yogurt raisins....still my heart! Yum. I signed up, weird...so I re did my name in linksy. :D

  29. New notebooks - I love them! I probably have too many for this reason.

I love the sound of baby laughter, which makes my job as an infant teacher must more enjoyable!! Also, getting to see babies smile and learn to walk. Babies are very joyful.

  30. I love new notebooks; the thought of filling up all those blank pages with my words gives me something to look forward to.
Another thing that makes me smile are the stories about honest people who do good deeds. I recently read a story about a homeless man who returned a diamond ring that a woman had accidentally given to him. He could have kept it for himself and pawned it. But he gave it back, and his honesty renewed my belief that there truly are good people about there. He was rewarded with money from the woman he gave the ring to; I also read another article about people who donated thousands of dollars to him as well after they heard about what he did.

  31. I'm slightly obsessed with Christmas too, I love it! Definitely my favourite time of year. Also, new notebooks are heavenly!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Such an awesome list!! I agree with all of them, but the vacuuming. But I do enjoy folding clothes fresh from the dryer. They are warm and smell so good!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'd invite you over to my place to do my vacuuming, but I already pay a cleaner for that. LOL. Wouldn't want to take away from her job. haha. I don't have a fancy Dyson though so you might disapprove. :)

    Those yoghurt-covered raisins are goood!

  34. ♪ Life is like a hurricane here in Duckburg.
    Race cars, lasers, aeroplanes - it's a duck blur.♪

    *loves Ducktails *

Thanks for inviting me to co-host this hop with you, honey. It was a lot of fun.

Excellent list - I could give you some joy in the form of my Dyson and dirty floors! ;)

  35. Oh yeah, for a series I'd definitely have to have it written down somewhere - I'd be sure to forget by the time I got to the next book! Carrie and I can be weird together because I too think through the details even though most of it doesn't make it into the book.
Thanks for the post, Kyra, and best of luck with Strength Carrie -- I've been hearing great things about it.

IWSG: Performance anxiety

Welcome to the August edition of IWSG, hosted by the amazing Alex J.Cavanaugh ! So, as most of you know by now - because I haven't shut up about it LOL - my first novel, Game On, has been released. The blog tour officially starts next week (YAY!) but I find myself becoming increasingly nervous. A blog tour not only highlights my book, but me. What if people don't like me? What if my guest posts suck, and everyone thinks I'm boring? If I can't engage people in 300 words on a blog, they probably aren't going to pick up my book. And then there's the "what happens next" question. I plan to make Game On into a series, which feels a bit arrogant of me. I don't know how many people are going to like the first book, should I really be planning to keep the series going? So far, Game On has actually been incredibly well received. I've had great reviews, so maybe I shouldn't worry about people not liking it, but what if Book Two isn't as goo

First Fight/First Kiss Blogfest

Yay, it's blogfest time! Many thanks to Danielle and Jackie for hosting! Here are the details: Share your 1 st FIGHT and 1 st KISS scenes in your MS’s or WIP’s. Crack open your current project or dive back into an old one. We want to feel what your characters feel. From the sting of their first fist-to-the-face to the tingling taste of their first kiss. Today is First Fight day, and I wanted to bring you a small excerpt from my NaNo novel which centres around Jesse Shaw, one of the characters from Game On. It's a bit rough, and a bit vague - mainly because I wrote it quickly, Jesse's voice still needs work, and this fight in full would be packed with spoilers, but hopefully it gives enough info to make sense!   Just to clear up a small thing - Georgia is Isabelle's twin sister. :)   ** “Izzy,” I said. “You know the right thing to do.” Isabelle looked down at me with those big brown eyes, and my insides twisted with guilt. Right away, I realised

IWSG: Am I doing it right? And does anyone care?

Happy IWSG Day! This genius idea created by Alex J. Cavanaugh is a place for all of us insecure writers to gather together to talk about our worries, and cheer each other on. Check out the full list of participants here ! Think right now about your favourite writers. How do you feel when you know they have a new book being released? It's usually something like, "HURRY UP, I CAN'T WAIT ANYMORE!" right? And also, think about when one of your super talented blog buddies announces they've got a book coming out soon. That is even more exciting because it's someone you know, someone you may have seen struggling to reach their goal of publication. Someone you've seen go through the rough times, and have finally made it to where they want to be. I can tell you that when Jolene Perry, or Nyrae Dawn announce a book release - I bounce up and down like a crazy person! These two awesome ladies are writers I absolutely adore for their ability to write so natural
