First of all - I just want to say a gigantic thanks to everyone who stopped by yesterday and commented on my first post in the "I'm Hearing Voices" blogfest! I didn't expect so many wonderful and encouraging words and it really boosted my confidence to know that you were so interested in Callum! You guys are the best!
I read some amazing interviews yesterday, and everyone who participated had something different and interesting to offer. I am genuinely excited by how many talented people there are out there! Thanks again go to Cassie and Angie for setting up this very cool blogfest!
Now, on to my blogging thoughts!
I have a confession to make. I have blogged before, and I always hated it. I have two other blogs I used for my freelance work, and I loathed taking time out of my day to write a post for them. They haven't been used in a long time. I set up this blog with the nagging suspicion I'd get bored of this one too - but instead - something magical happened. I fell in love.
I adore my freelancing job, but blogging about it didn't hold my attention. Perhaps it's because fiction has always been my first love, and there is always something new to say that I've done or learned. Maybe it is the incredible fiction writers in the blogosphere that keep me motivated, and make me think about techniques and different styles I could use. It could be the sheer variety of interesting people I am just starting to know.
But I think it is the combination of all of these things that has made me want to rush to my laptop, read what about everyone else's successes, and give someone a boost on the bad days because I know how those things feel.
I have finally found that blogging is not a chore. It is something I love!

Glad you can blog about something you enjoy. I can't imagine something viewed as a chore to be any fun at all.

DeleteMy blog has been stressing me, to be honest. I want to make sure what I post is worth someone taking a minute to read. I want it to be relevant, but don't know what 'expertise' I can share. All that worry robs the joy.

DeleteI know exactly what you mean, and I was very nervous when I started this blog because I feel like I don't know much that can help others, but then I started writing about things I'm learning, and any issues I'm having with the writing process. I think of this blog as being for me to write my own thoughts, because maybe, somewhere out there, someone else is having the same doubts and will feel better knowing someone understands. The best way to blog, IMHO, is not to pressure yourself, and write what is relevant to you. There will always be someone who is interested! :D
There have been times when blogging has felt like a chore to me, and that's when I step back a little and do other things. But I always, always come back. I need the community support and I love cheering fellow writers on! And most of the time, it's just nice to chat with others who get what I do. :)

DeleteOften, when I read "farewell posts" from bloggers who decide to stop blogging, they say it's because blogging became a chore for them. So it's good that blogging has become fun for you again, because ultimately that's what it should be. I think that when you're having fun blogging, it can motivate you even more to write other stuff.
