Hey, hey, hey! I am so excited for the "I'm Hearing Voices" blogfest, which allows aspiring writers to explore their characters in a little more depth, and share with other aspiring writers! Before I post mine, I'd like to say thanks to Cassie Mae and Angie for setting this up, and congratulations to everyone who has posted for the blogfest so far. I am having the best time reading them, and I will try to get through as many as I can before the end of the day! (I'm going away for a few days tomorrow, so I won't be around as much. In theory anyway, my laptop is coming with me though, so we'll see!)
Now, allow me to introduce Callum Lewis, one of the main characters from my WIP, which is, as yet, untitled! I am very nervous as this will be his first outing! Hope you enjoy it!
What is your biggest vulnerability? Do others know this, or is it a secret?
My past. I don't like people asking questions about the things I used to do before now. It's over. Finished. I may not look insecure, but I'm always afraid my past will mess up my future. Only Guy knows the truth.
What do people believe about you that is false?
That I don't care about anything. People look at me like I'm nothing, and they think it means I have nothing to lose. I don't have much, but that doesn't mean I don't care about it.
What would your best friend say is your fatal flaw? Why?
Guy says my biggest flaw is not trusting people. But why would I when it only ever ends up badly? I get judged every day of my life, and I'm not going to waste time giving people the chance to have a real reason to think I'm scum. People who put trust in others are stupid.
What would the same friend say is your one redeeming quality? Why?
Well, he's always been impressed by my *pulling power! But I think he'd say I'm a good friend. We've known each other since school, so I must be doing something right for him to put up with me for so long.
*pulling power - British slang for being good at picking up women (just in case you were curious!)

What do you want most in the world? What will you do to get it?
In a perfect world, I suppose I'd want what everyone else wants. A family. But this isn't a perfect world.

So, there you have it! Hope you all have a great day!
Isn't he an interesting character. Never heard of pulling power before. Lol Very good voice.
ReplyDeleteLol, I do like my "Britishisms" :D
DeleteThanks for the comment about voice. I have struggled a lot with Cal because he is so different from the rest of my characters, so your comment really gave me a boost!
Definitely a fun look behind the scenes ...
ReplyDeleteThanks, glad you liked it! :D
DeleteI love this insight into Cal. I think it's very telling. Great stuff.
ReplyDeleteThank you! There is a lot of depth to Cal, in spite of what he thinks about himself. :D
DeleteThis makes me want to find out more about him, to see if he overcomes some of his defenses, if he can enjoy life. I hope so! Good job on the challenge!
ReplyDeleteYippppppeeee! Lol, those words are music to my insecure ears! Thanks so much! :D
DeleteWow, I really love this character. "People look at me like I'm nothing, and they think it means I have nothing to lose. I don't have much, but that doesn't mean I don't care about it." I like how thoughtful he is.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting! There is definitely a lot more going on inside Cal's head than anyone would think!
DeleteHer last response is so sad. I feel tragedy from her! I wish she could have a family.
ReplyDelete*whispers* Cal is a guy ;)
DeleteBut yes, he does have a big story to tell, even if it takes a long time for him to tell it! :D
Thanks to you I've learned a new phrase : pulling power. Your heart goes out to him. But no one is a lost cause who has a good friend like Guy. Roland -- oh, thanks for visiting my interview.
ReplyDeleteHeh, always happy to teach something new! :D
DeleteYou're very welcome, I really enjoyed your interview!
I like the new phrase (I love me some British slang). I'm curious where this leads.
ReplyDeleteHee hee, British slang is pretty cool! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteFantastic! I like his personality already. But who is "Guy?"
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteGuy and Cal have known each other since they were at school, and Guy has kind of been like Cal's big brother. He is the person who knows him best, but it wasn't always through Cal's choice, more that circumstance dictated their friendship at the start. That is mostly back story - at the point the story begins, they are best friends. :D
Oh my gosh, that last line just got to me!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome Kyra! Great job :)
Thanks, Cassie! <3
DeleteP.S You are doing an excellent job of keeping up with all the blogs in this fest - thanks again for organising it! :D
Great responses! Wonderful first outing :) I would read your story based off this little hint of what's going on, nicely done!
ReplyDeleteAww thanks, Hope!
DeleteI'm looking forward to reading more about Callum. He has a lot to offer a reader, I think.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I was hoping his complexity would come through a little during this interview. There really is a lot to learn about him!
DeleteI like your character and I also like your blog. I'm a new follower.
ReplyDelete*Pulling power*, that's a new one.
Thank you very much, and thanks for following! (I am following you back too!)
DeleteHee hee, I have had a lot of comments about "pulling power" :D
First off - I just have to say... I love your blog. It's been a downer day for me and this blog just cheers me up! So cute and happy! Also - FABULOUS character! Seriously, so cool! I would read your book on this alone! Totally hooked me!
ReplyDeleteAww, I'm sorry you've had a rubbish day - hopefully tomorrow will be better!
DeleteI'm very happy my blog cheered you up, I want it to feel cosy, so people will be comfortable reading and posting here!
And, I can't tell you how happy your comment has made me! I have been feeling somewhat insecure today, so it's exciting to me to have you say you would be interested enough to read the whole story! Thanks so much! <3
Kyra--"Pulling power"--how cool is that! And I love the past as a vulnerability :) Great job! Cal was awesome in his first interview.
ReplyDeleteThanks Angela!
Deletepulling power. Heh. That is awesome slang. I'm totally going to steal that. And also, i love how that's a redeeming quality for him
ReplyDeleteLol, he is very much a British slang kind of guy!
DeleteYep, my bro and his mates always used to talk about pulling chicks. haha. And we're Australian.
ReplyDeleteSorry to say to Callum that now I am really interested in his past, and want to hear all about it! :D
Lol, I have a very good friend from Australia, and he made me realise how many similarities there are between Brits and Australians - I was amazed!
DeleteGlad you are interested in Cal from the interview - thanks!!
I am curious to know what and if he changes his mind about not trusting people.
ReplyDeleteHee hee, all I can say at this point is that he has a lot of lessons to learn!
DeleteI got such a great sense of voice as I read it. Your character has a very particular way of speaking.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I mentioned before about how I struggled with his voice in particular, so I am very pleased it is starting to come through! :D
DeleteWhat a strong voice! Callum sounds like he's had a tough life. I'm interested to know what he's hiding in his past.
ReplyDeleteThank you! He has a LOT of secrets ;)
DeleteLove the name Callum! He just jumped off the screen for me, he sounded very real, very troubled and likeable. Nicely done!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cortney!! I really appreciate you taking the time to comment, and I'm happy you liked Callum! :D
DeleteI like the name Callum as well! I'm so curious about him, especially about his past! Even though he wants to forget it! It did shape his character, I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteYup, it has shaped his character a lot, and far more than he realises! :D
DeleteJudging from what I've read on your blog you're a fellow 'Brit writer' nice to meet you! Callum sounds like a really nice character, a bit vulnerable, but I'm guessing he hides it well.
ReplyDeleteYay, nice to meet you too! I haven't met many Brit bloggers yet! :D
DeleteCallum is very good at hiding his weaknesses, but he has rarely met anyone who has tried to dig a little deeper inside him.
Cool character. I think my Amy would agree with the "the past is the past" concept :)
ReplyDelete.....dhole
Heh, yes they seem to have that in common!
