I'm Hearing Voices....Everywhere!

Hey, hey, hey! I am so excited for the "I'm Hearing Voices" blogfest, which allows aspiring writers to explore their characters in a little more depth, and share with other aspiring writers! Before I post mine, I'd like to say thanks to Cassie Mae and Angie for setting this up, and congratulations to everyone who has posted for the blogfest so far. I am having the best time reading them, and I will try to get through as many as I can before the end of the day! (I'm going away for a few days tomorrow, so I won't be around as much. In theory anyway, my laptop is coming with me though, so we'll see!)

Now, allow me to introduce Callum Lewis, one of the main characters from my WIP, which is, as yet, untitled! I am very nervous as this will be his first outing! Hope you enjoy it!



What is your biggest vulnerability? Do others know this, or is it a secret?

My past. I don't like people asking questions about the things I used to do before now. It's over. Finished. I may not look insecure, but I'm always afraid my past will mess up my future. Only Guy knows the truth.


What do people believe about you that is false?

That I don't care about anything. People look at me like I'm nothing, and they think it means I have nothing to lose. I don't have much, but that doesn't mean I don't care about it.


What would your best friend say is your fatal flaw? Why?

Guy says my biggest flaw is not trusting people. But why would I when it only ever ends up badly? I get judged every day of my life, and I'm not going to waste time giving people the chance to have a real reason to think I'm scum. People who put trust in others are stupid.



What would the same friend say is your one redeeming quality? Why?

Well, he's always been impressed by my *pulling power! But I think he'd say I'm a good friend. We've known each other since school, so I must be doing something right for him to put up with me for so long.

What do you want most in the world? What will you do to get it?
In a perfect world, I suppose I'd want what everyone else wants. A family. But this isn't a perfect world.

*pulling power - British slang for being good at picking up women (just in case you were curious!)

      Lol, I do like my "Britishisms" :D

      Thanks for the comment about voice. I have struggled a lot with Cal because he is so different from the rest of my characters, so your comment really gave me a boost!

      Guy and Cal have known each other since they were at school, and Guy has kind of been like Cal's big brother. He is the person who knows him best, but it wasn't always through Cal's choice, more that circumstance dictated their friendship at the start. That is mostly back story - at the point the story begins, they are best friends. :D

      Lol, I have a very good friend from Australia, and he made me realise how many similarities there are between Brits and Australians - I was amazed!

    I got such a great sense of voice as I read it. Your character has a very particular way of speaking.

    I like the name Callum as well! I'm so curious about him, especially about his past! Even though he wants to forget it! It did shape his character, I'm sure!

    Judging from what I've read on your blog you're a fellow 'Brit writer' nice to meet you! Callum sounds like a really nice character, a bit vulnerable, but I'm guessing he hides it well.

      Callum is very good at hiding his weaknesses, but he has rarely met anyone who has tried to dig a little deeper inside him.

IWSG: Performance anxiety

Welcome to the August edition of IWSG, hosted by the amazing Alex J.Cavanaugh ! So, as most of you know by now - because I haven't shut up about it LOL - my first novel, Game On, has been released. The blog tour officially starts next week (YAY!) but I find myself becoming increasingly nervous. A blog tour not only highlights my book, but me. What if people don't like me? First Fight/First Kiss Blogfest

Yay, it's blogfest time! Many thanks to Danielle and Jackie for hosting! Here are the details: Share your 1 st FIGHT and 1 st KISS scenes in your MS’s or WIP’s. Today is First Fight day, and I wanted to bring you a small excerpt from my NaNo novel which centres around Jesse Shaw, one of the characters from Game On. IWSG: Am I doing it right? And does anyone care?

Happy IWSG Day! This genius idea created by Alex J. Cavanaugh is a place for all of us insecure writers to gather together to talk about our worries, and cheer each other on. Check out the full list of participants here ! Think right now about your favourite writers. How do you feel when you know they have a new book being released? It's usually something like, "HURRY UP, I CAN'T WAIT ANYMORE!" right? And also, think about when one of your super talented blog buddies announces they've got a book coming out soon.
