WIP: The Movie Bloghop!

It's here!! Yay!

Almost all of us have imagined who would play the characters in our WIPs if they were ever made into a movie. On February 28th, we want you to “cast” your WIP, and post photos of the actors/actresses you would choose to play the characters in your latest manuscript. You don’t have to cast everyone if you don’t want to, just show us your MCs and tell us a little about them.

Also, we’d like you to tell us which songs you’d have on your WIP Movie soundtrack! This can be one song that fits the main theme of the story, or several songs that make you think of your story.

Rachel and I will each pick a winner at random, and we’re giving away one of our favourite books which were turned into movies!

 Rachel’s prizes
: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak + Choose one of Rachel’s ebooks.

My prizes: The Perks Of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky + Choose one of my ebooks OR an ARC of Game On Book 3.

Okay, so for my WIP: The Movie entry, I'm using - naturally - Game On Book 3, which is now officially titled Sidelined. (Also, thanks to all of you who have signed up for the cover reveal, if I haven't sent you the info yet, I will do so later today!)

Those of you who read Game On and are familiar with the series will know that the books are centred around a soccer team in LA. The next book in the series will be released next month, and the main character is Bree Collinson. Again, those of you who know the books will recognise her as being the bubbly, slightly ditzy wife of Jude Collinson, the Westberg Warriors' goalkeeper.

Meet Bree:

Technically, this is Maria Kanellis, former WWE Diva (yeah, I'm all about the wrestlers!), but for the purposes of this hop, she is my MC.

Bree is a happy, sweet, and somewhat random person, whose thoughts can tumble out of her mouth before she's really considered what she's saying. She's young, 21, and her husband is ten years older than her. This has led to some people thinking she only married Jude for his money. What they don't know is that Bree - although she has a love for shopping - would actually be happy living in a one bedroom apartment, as long as she had Jude by her side.

If you read Game On and you found Bree a little bit... high maintenance, and possibly annoying, you'll see a very different side to her in Sidelined. She has a horrible backstory, and she goes through something of a crisis about what she wants to do with her life during the story. It results  in her making some bad choices, and potentially ruining her friendships with the people she cares about the most.

Meet Jude:

This is Robert Hoffman., I genuinely have no idea who this guy is, but I found him on Pinterest, and knew he was the guy for the job!

You could ALMOST say Jude is one of the antagonists in Sidelined. He's actually a really good guy, but in Bree's mind, he is trying to keep her chained to him, and not let her do what she wants to do. He's very protective of her due to the circumstances in which they met - but he would also do absolutely anything for her. There is nothing she needs that he hasn't given her, and he would pretty much walk to the ends of the earth and back if she asked him to. Not that she would, because she doesn't like being alone!

I couldn't think of the right song to sum up the book as a whole, so I thought I would do with this retro video which pretty much sums up Bree's general philosophy for life:

So there you have it! Sidelined, movie style!

  1. Great choices! I also have to say that I approve of the character name Jude, though this much is obvious considering my oldest son is named Jude.

    Thanks for co-hosting this!

  2. Okay, so I've actually picturing Bree as a blonde all this time - in fact, I see her as Bernadette from Big Bang Theory, without the annoying voice. Not sure I want to change that image!

Listening to the song right now, and it's working!

  4. Great post, especially the retro video at the end. I hope the Diva doesn't take offense to that. ;) Thank you for putting together this great hop. I can't wait to see what others are sharing.

  5. Thanks for doing the blog hop.

I definitely would call WWE wrestlers actors, because that's just what they do. Along with a little wrestling. :)

  23. Oh, you did a me - you plucked a face from SM to use, not know who they are. Several of mine are random. Bree and Luke look good together and she sounds like a great pal to have. Happy feet.

IWSG: Performance anxiety

Welcome to the August edition of IWSG, hosted by the amazing Alex J.Cavanaugh ! So, as most of you know by now - because I haven't shut up about it LOL - my first novel, Game On, has been released. The blog tour officially starts next week (YAY!) but I find myself becoming increasingly nervous. A blog tour not only highlights my book, but me. What if people don't like me? What if my guest posts suck, and everyone thinks I'm boring? If I can't engage people in 300 words on a blog, they probably aren't going to pick up my book. And then there's the "what happens next" question. I plan to make Game On into a series, which feels a bit arrogant of me. I don't know how many people are going to like the first book, should I really be planning to keep the series going? So far, Game On has actually been incredibly well received. I've had great reviews, so maybe I shouldn't worry about people not liking it, but what if Book Two isn't as goo...

IWSG: Am I doing it right? And does anyone care?

Happy IWSG Day! This genius idea created by Alex J. Cavanaugh is a place for all of us insecure writers to gather together to talk about our worries, and cheer each other on. Check out the full list of participants here ! Think right now about your favourite writers. How do you feel when you know they have a new book being released? It's usually something like, "HURRY UP, I CAN'T WAIT ANYMORE!" right? And also, think about when one of your super talented blog buddies announces they've got a book coming out soon. That is even more exciting because it's someone you know, someone you may have seen struggling to reach their goal of publication. Someone you've seen go through the rough times, and have finally made it to where they want to be. I can tell you that when Jolene Perry, or Nyrae Dawn announce a book release - I bounce up and down like a crazy person! These two awesome ladies are writers I absolutely adore for their ability to write so natural...

J is for Jackass

My plan for the A - Z Challenge is to write every post as if it were a diary entry by a character from my WIP. Today's post comes from Bree Collinson. ** I am so lucky to have my husband. He's handsome, and strong, and fun, and did I mention handsome? He doesn't say much, but that's okay, I talk enough for both of us. If I was single, I might have to deal with skeezy men like Radleigh McCoy. He is such a jackass! I've seen the way he thinks he can get any woman he wants, and he usually does. He's kinda hot, but I hate the way he's treating Leah. She is so not into him, but he won't leave her alone! This morning, Leah and I went for a swim at the training ground before work, and he said he'd like to get a few lengths in with her! I mean, that's not even cute, it's just kinda gross. McCoy needs to find someone new to hit on. Or maybe if he stopped being such an asshat, she might start to like him. Actually, they might make a cute coupl...
