Jennifer Lane's Streamline Book Birthday Bash!

Jennifer Lane is one of the most fantastic authors I've ever met online. If memory serves me correctly, I think I met Jen during A-Z last year, though I could be very wrong lol! The important point is, her books are wonderful, and I am so happy to have found them! This week, it's the book birthday of Jen's novel, Streamline, and I signed up to be part of the celebrations! So, if you want to know more, keep reading! :D

Streamline turns one-year-old this week! We're celebrating with a giveaway.

Seems like Leo Scott has it all: looks, brains, and athletic talent. He's captain of his high school swim team with a bright future in college and beyond. But Leo has secrets. His mother's crippling car accident has devastated his family and left Leo to deal with his father's abuse, battered and alone.

Leo's girlfriend Audrey Rose is poised for her own share of success. As one of Florida's top high school swimmers, Audrey dreams of college swimming stardom. But there's an obstacle to her glorious rise to the top. Her number one supporter--her father--is in prison for murder.

Part murder mystery, part tale of young love in a military family, this gripping story takes readers on a journey from Pensacola to Annapolis. Leo and Audrey must band together to rise above the adversity they encounter and find their true selves in the process. When everything's on the line...streamline.

"What an emotional journey! I don't think I have ever cried over a character so much in my life."
~Dani from Paulette's Papers

"The issues that are touched upon in the story: family, substance abuse, teen relationships, trust, honor...they are dealt with in an amazingly realistic, unglossed manner."
~Andrea from The Bookish Babe

"Overall, Streamline is a wonderfully, emotionally complex story about the ones we love, the ones we hurt, the mistakes that break the human heart, and the unconditional love that puts the pieces back together."
~Dani from Refracted Light Reviews

Streamline at Amazon for $2.99
Streamline at Barnes & Noble for $2.99

Author Jennifer Lane is giving away one signed print copy of Streamline to a US winner and three ebooks to international winners. To enter, complete the Rafflecopter form.

Bloggy Burnout

Hey peeps!

I know it's been a while, but I needed to take a little time out to decide what I wanted to do, and say, before putting this post together.

Since... well, probably just after Christmas, I've been finding blogging harder and harder to keep up with. It's not because I don't enjoy it anymore, I still love connecting with everyone, sharing good news and helping to pick people up on the bad days. But the pressure I put on myself to comment on every blog post and reply to every comment has zapped some of the enthusiasm.

In reality, I know you all understand. It's hard to keep up with everything, and if some of you don't comment on all of my posts, that's fine with me. I don't think it means you like me any less, it just means real life has taken over. But in my head, I think, "If I stop blogging, everyone will forget me, my book sales will dry up, and when I get back to it, it will be like starting all over again." Some of that might be true. Out of sight, out of mind, and all that. But I will be way more prepared to start afresh if I've had a lengthy time out to focus on things I need to do for me. Namely finishing my next book, and spending some time in the real world.

So, I am going to be quiet for a while, and hopefully this time to recharge will give me a chance to get that new book ready for anyone who is still interested when I get back! :p You will find me around on Facebook and Twitter, and occasionally on my entertainment blog here (I have some events coming up!)

Take care, kids, and feel free to drop me an email if anything awesome occurs!

Carrie Butler's Strength Blog Tour!

Today I am THRILLED to be here with a post for Carrie Butler's Strength Blog Tour! If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend you check it out!

Take it away, Carrie!

Creating a Fictional Campus
Thanks for having me over, Kyra!

For those of you who don't know me, let me preface this by saying I'm weird about details. I keep color-coded binders, and I have spreadsheets for everything under the sun. That's just me. So, when I tell you how I keep track of things, it might come across as the slightest bit strange...
Setting is a big deal, especially when you're dealing with a series. Every detail contributes to the reader's mental image, and it's jarring when descriptions contradict each other. That's why I mapped out Wilcox's (fictional) campus while I worked on Strength.

I drew inspiration from every college campus I'd ever been to, including my own alma maters and a few I visited for band camp. (I know what you're thinking. Keep that band camp joke to yourself.) There are academic buildings, recreational areas, sports fields, residence halls, etc. It's a well-rounded atmosphere with plenty of room for growth—even though half of it isn't mentioned.

That's the other reason I keep track of everything; it helps me stay oriented. "Okay, Rena is leaving the Rec. On her way back to the dorm, she's going to pass the campus green, an academic hall, the student union, and the south quad. Will she run into anyone she knows at that time of day? Is it dark enough that she would hurry and take a shortcut? Where are the well-lit areas?" It becomes real in my mind, as opposed to, "Okay, transition sentence getting Rena from point A to point B...”

But like I said, that's just me. I'm a glutton for punishment and extra work. ;) How do you keep track of your settings?

Christine Rains: Romance in 1304 The Harbnger

Christine Rains is continuing her theme of romance in the 13th Floor Series over here on my blog! Take it away, Christine!

1304 – The Harbinger
By Christine Rains

Life is wonderful for modern day harpy Meira Harper. Her jobs consist of wearing designer shoes and fetching souls for Zeus. Well, it's wonderful until she gets the command to collect the soul of the man she loves. She's willing to do whatever it takes to save Sam, even if it means him rejecting her for never revealing her true self and being turned into a poodle by Hera.

Sam Wright loves the simple things in life. Family, good people, and his beautiful girlfriend. When he dies saving a woman and her daughter, his soul is claimed by Zeus. What Sam discovers when he's taken to Olympus is that Meira managed to get him a chance to live by participating in three challenges set up by the gods. He may be a hero, but the gods never play fairly.

Meira and Sam have been dating for a few months. Their chance at a life together is taken from them, and though Meira believes she'll never get him back, she's going to make sure he lives. It's bad enough that Sam sees her true form as a harpy with her ugly bird feet, but he wants a simple life. No drama or lies. It's one thing to have her heart broken when Sam states he couldn't handle her lies, but to know that they could've never had a life together even if he didn't die tears her up inside.

It was a big challenge for me to not let this story turn into a tragedy. Meira and Sam go through the wringer more so than any other couple in the 13th Floor series. The gods are merciless, but so are the actions taken by one with a good heart. Pick up The Harbinger and discover if Meira and Sam find their happily ever after, the gods get what they want as usual, or if everyone ends up as yappy little dogs.

Title: 1304 The Harbinger (The 13th Floor series, #4)
Author: Christine Rains
Genre: paranormal romance
Release date: March 13th, 2013

Meira Harper loves both her jobs: talking about beautiful shoes and fetching souls for Zeus. But the Thunder God threatens the harpy's loyalty to her job when she receives the call to bring the soul of gorgeous Sam Wright. Meira pleads with her boss to let him live. Zeus agrees, but Sam must fight for his life. If Sam can win three challenges, he can keep his soul.

The gods never play fairly, though, so Meira needs to find ways to help Sam with the challenges. She cannot outwardly cross her master, but she refuses to let the man she loves lose his soul. They haven't even had a chance to start a life together.

Sam's soul is on the line. Meira's will be too if she's caught, but that's a risk she's willing to take.
