WiP: The Movie Blogfest

Since I've been blogging, the fun of blogfests has helped me meet some awesome new people and also helped me to learn a lot of things I would have otherwise missed out on. I love reading snippets of everyone's work, and getting to know each individual writer's style and genre.

With that in mind, I would like to announce a brand new blogfest which I am co-hosting with Rachel at Writing On The Wall!

WiP: The Movie - March 9th
Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to post a photo of the actors or actresses you would like to play the characters in your WiP if it were to be made into a movie. It can be just one character, or the entire cast!

Secondly, we want you to soundtrack your movie! Head over to YouTube, and post a song that best describes one of your characters, or your story as a whole. Again, you can pick one song, or several, it's entirely up to you!

All we ask is that you follow these simple rules:
1, Follow me
2. Follow Rachel
(We will follow back) 3. Sign up using the linky list at the bottom of the page
4. Add one of our funky graphics to your blog to promote the event
5. Post your entries on March 9th, and hop around to see the other entrants on the list!

The Prizes

Rachel and I will each pick a winner at random, and we will be giving away a copy of one of our favourite books which were turned into movies!

Please note: If you write a blog post about this fest before March 8th, you will get an extra name in the draw to win a prize!

From me:
Water For Elephants OR Bridget Jones' Diary

From Rachel: The Princess Bride OR The Hunger Games (which is tipped to be AWESOME!)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask because I am sure I will have missed something out lol! Hope you can all join in!

  7. Okay, I'm trying to say this politely (and failing), so put your cup of tea down so you don't spray your computer.

The daydreaming of who would play X in the movie franchise of your work in progress has a name. Are you ready for it?

    Casturbation.

    I'm not making that up.

If you hunt around for it on agent and editor blogs they'll tell you about why it's a bad thing, but I think it's important to have a good idea of what your characters look like (and fun of course). But I also thought someone should let you know about the very rude sounding term the publishing industry has coined for it, just in case you get a troll.

    1. Wow. That would have been a much more interesting name for a blogfest LOL!

It's strange that it's considered a bad thing to do. For me, it's not exactly about who we would really choose to play the parts IF it became a movie, it's more about, as you said, having fun! :D

Thanks for sharing, I will do a little more research on Casturbation later!

  9. Hmm, I'm not good at the casting couch thing, so I probably won't participate in this. But I have no problem advertising it in my community events. I'll try to do a blog post prior to the 8th.

  27. I'm debating...I don't like posting pictures of famous people, or really any people for my characters, mostly because I don't know anyone they truly resemble...and because I want my reader to be able to create a character from their own imagination. However, in truth, I've kinda pulled bits and pieces of people I personally know and hodge podged them together to create the idea behind my characters physical appearance...

The music bit would be alot of fun though. I always write to music, and some of my characters already have songs.

IWSG: Performance anxiety

Welcome to the August edition of IWSG, hosted by the amazing Alex J.Cavanaugh ! So, as most of you know by now - because I haven't shut up about it LOL - my first novel, Game On, has been released. The blog tour officially starts next week (YAY!) but I find myself becoming increasingly nervous. A blog tour not only highlights my book, but me. What if people don't like me? What if my guest posts suck, and everyone thinks I'm boring? If I can't engage people in 300 words on a blog, they probably aren't going to pick up my book. And then there's the "what happens next" question. I plan to make Game On into a series, which feels a bit arrogant of me. I don't know how many people are going to like the first book, should I really be planning to keep the series going? So far, Game On has actually been incredibly well received. I've had great reviews, so maybe I shouldn't worry about people not liking it, but what if Book Two isn't as goo...

IWSG: Am I doing it right? And does anyone care?

Happy IWSG Day! This genius idea created by Alex J. Cavanaugh is a place for all of us insecure writers to gather together to talk about our worries, and cheer each other on. Check out the full list of participants here ! Think right now about your favourite writers. How do you feel when you know they have a new book being released? It's usually something like, "HURRY UP, I CAN'T WAIT ANYMORE!" right? And also, think about when one of your super talented blog buddies announces they've got a book coming out soon. That is even more exciting because it's someone you know, someone you may have seen struggling to reach their goal of publication. Someone you've seen go through the rough times, and have finally made it to where they want to be. I can tell you that when Jolene Perry, or Nyrae Dawn announce a book release - I bounce up and down like a crazy person! These two awesome ladies are writers I absolutely adore for their ability to write so natural...

GUTGAA Meet and Greet!

Oh, I have SO been looking forward to this!! But, before I start, I need to send a huge apology to Emily R.King and Melodie Wright. I signed up to their What I Did Last Summer Bloghop , but it looks like I'm not going to have the time to participate. :( I've never backed out of a bloghop before, but as you may have noticed, I've been kind of out of the blogging loop for a while and now I'm struggling to catch up! Please go and check out Emily and Melodie's hop, though - it's fun! :D NOW, onto GUTGAA! This amazing blogfest was put together by Deana Barnhart , and was designed to help writers in their quest to find an agent, plus help form connections between writers. The idea is genius and I am so excited to be a part of it! So, I am going to begin with the meet and greet questions, and I'll be hopping around to other blogs later! :D Bio : Kyra Lennon was born on the South coast of England, and to this day, still lives by the sea.
