The Bloody Valentine Bloghop!

Happy Anti-Valentine's Day, friends! A.F. Stewart is hosting the Bloody Valentine Bloghop today, and I am venturing over to the dark side! This is what A.F. Stewart had to say about it:

On February 14th,  I'll be hosting a darkly delightful, blood dripping, Valentine's Day blog hop where it's down with the idea of candy and flowers. For one day writers and bloggers will dispense with the sappy romance, and show you the bad side of love.

We will be celebrating heartbreak, love gone wrong, romantic mayhem and tragedy, hopefully with that little splash of humour and blood.  On the Bloody Valentine Blog Hop you will find out what happens when the rose petals die, the candy melts, and lovers are looking for payback.

Bwahahaha!

Okay,  all of you who know me will know that this is NOT what I'm all about. I don't really do the dark side, I do fluffy and sweet. But you know what, love is never just about that. Sometimes, it's downright ugly.

On the bad side of romance, there is disappointment, doubt, massive insecurity. There are tears, and nights spent at home with a tub of Ben and Jerry's.

If you've ever felt that level of heartbreak, when something you thought was forever ends, or something you wanted is abruptly snatched away from you, it's actually impossible to describe that level of pain.

Obviously, I do have a story to tell. A story of a guy who broke me, and who - after close to ten years - still wanders in and out of my dreams occasionally. But even after all that time, the story still feels too personal to share with the whole world. My best friends know it, of course. And one day, I am positive there is an epic story inside me that will come out, inspired by all that happened. But not yet.

And I guess that's the truth of the dark side of love. Even after you've moved on, been in other relationships, and you don't even think about it anymore (unless a bloghop asks you to dredge up some memories lol :p ), there are some things that will always leave a mark on you.

Comments

  1. Memories do that whether they are good or bad. But I'm glad those marks haves not killed your positivity. Happy Anit-Valentines Day and the regular one too Kyra.

  2. <3 I HATE that he did that to you.

  3. Love always leaves a mark, and one day you figure out what they mean!

  4. Very true words. The bit about Ben & Jerry's, as well as things leaving their mark on you.

  5. Love can certainly end badly, and there's nothing you can do about the pain other than get through it. That's probably why Ben & Jerry's will never go out of business. They have too many broken hearts to mend!

  6. Nothing is more poisonous than your own joy being turned against you. Someday you'll mend enough; it may not make anymore sense then than it does now, but at least you have you - and that's what matters! Stay fluffy, it keeps the poison away! (...and too much Ben & Jerry's, if there is such a thing)

  7. This is why boys suck. I'm sorry someone hurt you, but another better one will come along!

  8. I like the fluffy side of love too, but you've pointed out the all too true dark side. My high school bestie would always tell me, "A writer must suffer" for our work to have depth. That got me through plenty of heart aches!

  9. I've definitely had the Ben & Jerry's nights (plus wine).

I try not to add a lot of hype to Valentine's Day. I read a study recently where couples are actually MORE LIKELY to break up on that day.

So I try not to give it attention :D

  10. I've had those nights too. I've been with my husband for over 15 years now, but I still have those guys who broke my heart wander into my dreams now and then.

  11. Love does have a darkside. But then, if it was all bunnies and roses, it wouldn't really have meant much either.

  12. I do know how that type of heartbreak can be. Love definitely has a dark side. I broke up with this one person, who even thought I knew it would never really work out, I still loved the person. I haven't dated or anything really since, and it's been nine years since that happened.

  13. I'm a light and fluffy gal, too. But we probably all have a dark, sad story lurking in our past. Good for the writing I think. ;)

  14. I've been there, too, and what I can say is this: Chocolate definitely helps!

  15. Yeah, I've had some doozies of relationships or almost-relationships as well. I never thought of writing about them. Maybe it's something to consider in future. :)

IWSG: Performance anxiety

Welcome to the August edition of IWSG, hosted by the amazing Alex J.Cavanaugh ! So, as most of you know by now - because I haven't shut up about it LOL - my first novel, Game On, has been released. The blog tour officially starts next week (YAY!) but I find myself becoming increasingly nervous. A blog tour not only highlights my book, but me. What if people don't like me? What if my guest posts suck, and everyone thinks I'm boring? If I can't engage people in 300 words on a blog, they probably aren't going to pick up my book. And then there's the "what happens next" question. I plan to make Game On into a series, which feels a bit arrogant of me. I don't know how many people are going to like the first book, should I really be planning to keep the series going? So far, Game On has actually been incredibly well received. I've had great reviews, so maybe I shouldn't worry about people not liking it, but what if Book Two isn't as goo

Dust It Off Bloghop!

Welcome to day one of the Dust It Off Bloghop, hosted by Theresa Paolo and Cortney Pearson ! This hop is all about the WIPs you wrote, and then shelved! Okay, so I am teaming up with Clare Dugmore for this one, because back in 2006 - yup, we've known each other THAT long lol! - we started to write a book together. Unfortunately, other commitments got in the way and we never finished it - but even so many years on - it's still something we remember fondly, so we're going to dust it off for you! The first day, May 3rd: We want you to post a 1-2 sentence pitch (Great way to practice pitches) about the shelved WIP. Here is the pitch Clare and I came up with: For best friends Caitlin and Tori, their first acting job out of Uni opens up a whole new world for them – unfortunately, it wasn’t the world they were expecting. When the strains of adult life and tangled relationships threaten to ruin their friendship, they are forced to take a look at what’s really importan
