Back To Bataan Review

Back to Bataan Summary

New York City, 1943. War is raging in Europe and the Pacific, while Jack Dalton is stuck attending Dutch Masters Day School. What Jack really wants is to enlist in the army, to fight...

Everything changes when Coco, Jack's "fiancee," throws him over for one of his classmates. Jack sees red and does something drastic. Then he runs away. Hiding out in a nearby park, Jack joins ranks with a group of vagrants and is soon under the sway of a man called the Leader, an ex-convict who is as articulate and charismatic as he is dangerous. The Leader turns Jack's world upside down. To put things right, Jack must prove himself a braver soldier than he ever imagined.

So, Back To Bataan. Not gonna lie, the summary and front cover had me thinking this book was going to be YA. However, the main character, Jack, is just eleven years old - which definitely threw me - especially when I sort of expected him to grow older as the story progressed. Again, my mistake.

In spite of my surprise, I quickly warmed to Oliver and his young mind. The way he talked about his "fiancee" was endearing, and you couldn't help but admire his determination. You see, Jack puts 110% into everything he decides to do - and his bravery might even put Harry Potter to shame! :p

Back To Bataan was obviously written with a great deal of thought and care. It's impossible not to get caught up in Oliver's story because it is just so believable. Jerome Charyn created a character you want to root for, even when he does something bad, you can't help but cheer him on and hope everything works out for him.

If you're looking for a quick read with a good dose of action and humour, it's definitely worth a read!

Time Out

Hey guys,

Just stopping by to let you know I am taking some time out this week. I'm closing down my Google Reader so I don't get tempted, BUT you have to promise to let me know if anything major happens this week because I don't wanna miss anything important! :p

To my new followers - welcome, and sorry to run away so soon. Those who have been around longer will tell you that I don't go on blog vacation very often, but I have got some big things coming up in the next few months, so now is one of the few chances I'll get to take things easy!

That said, you will probably see me around on Twitter and Facebook, and some of you will get emails about upcoming events but for the most part, I am going to be snuggled up, fighting off my impending cold and recharging!

I do have a book review scheduled for later in the week - but that's all! :D

Have a wonderful week! <3 br="br">

If I Let You Go ARC Winners and a Meme

This week flew by!

I've been busy, busy, busy getting organised for all these book releases! I should have things under more control next week, but I also might take next week away from blogging to recharge again. After that, I will be back to normal again - or as normal as I ever get! :p

Thanks to all of you who have helped with the If I Let You Go cover reveal and signed up to the bloghop! Signups will be open until the bloghop starts so there's still time! Details are here.

In my last post I offered 5 ARCs to those of you who commented! I did a random draw, and the winners are:

I will be in touch very soon!

Now, I was also tagged by Trisha in the Lucky 7 Meme today! I have done it before, but with Game On. I was going to do with my novella but ... it doesn't have 77 pages! So, I will share a glimpse into Blindsided instead!

Here are the details:

The Rules:

  1. Go to page 77 of your current MS/WIP.
  2. Go to line 7.
  3. Copy down the next 7 lines – sentences or paragraphs – and post them as they’re written. No cheating.
  4. Tag 7 authors.
  5. Let them know.
Please note, this is quite close to the end of the story, and comes from Jesse Shaw's POV :)

“Okay,” I laughed. “What shall we do instead?”
“Well, I was thinking that, as Dad’s at work, Mum’s shopping again, Hunter’s out with Willow and Georgia is taking a nap, we should do something we’ve never done before.”
Her eyes sparkled playfully, and her lips curved into the kind of grin that made my heart hammer in my chest. For a second, I was transported back to Mischa’s party, when we danced together. That was the last time she’d looked at me that way.
“Oh really?” I asked. “What did you have in mind?”

I would usually tag, but a lot of people have done this already so, if you want to do it go ahead!

Have a wonderful weekend!

On October 22nd, I invite you to share some stories about letting go. Was there a time when you had to let go of someone or something? How did it make you feel? How did you handle it? Or if that's too personal - which I completely understand - how about writing a piece of flash fiction?

The only rules are - obviously - it has to be related to letting go, and please keep it to a maximum of 500 words.

When the day arrives, I will hop around to all the entries, along with my independent judge (otherwise known as "Mum" LOL), and the story that touches us the most will win a $10 Amazon gift card!

Genre Favourites Blogfest

Good morning! Yes, it's Monday again, but to shake away that horrible first day of the week feeling, we have Alex J. Cavanaugh's Genre Favourites Blogfest! So, let me tell you about some of my favourites!

Movies: It's all about the Rom Coms for me! I love those movies that make you laugh out loud, and have you rooting for the couple to get together. Some of my favourites include 27 Dresses, Love Actually, The Holiday ... okay, I could go on all day!

Music: This is tougher for me because I like most music. I suppose if I had to, I would choose pop and classic rock because both of them always put a smile on my face! :D

Books: Chicklit!! Pretty much the book version of Rom Com movies - and I love them for the same reasons. :D

Guilty Pleasure:: The Rocky Horror Show! Hands down, this is possibly my favourite thing ever! I love the movie in all its cheesiness, I love the songs, and catching a stage version of the show is one of the best things Ive ever done!

Thanks to Alex for hosting this hop - check out the other participants by following the link above! :D

Six Sentence Sunday - If I Let You Go

With the cover reveal for my novella coming up next week, I figured now would be a good day to give you another glimpse inside If I Let You Go!

Just to let you know, you can now add it on Goodreads if you wish! Also, there is still time to enter the Goodreads paperback giveaway of Game On which you can find here.

Now, onto Six Sentence Sunday!

Madison Connor is about to lose it. Her job, that is. For three years, she’s taken care of Dominic Hartley’s five year old daughter, Tilly, but her world is flipped on its head when Dominic tells her his latest promotion is taking him to New York. With Tilly having a meltdown over the move, Madison and Dominic get into a fight that changes the entire nature of their relationship, causing Madison to ask herself a big question. Can she let him go?

Four hours trapped in a car with an almost six-year-old and a man you’re barely talking to is the definition of living hell. Okay, that might be a bit dramatic, but between the, “Are we there yets,” and the palpable tension, I spent most of my time wishing I’d taken the train.
Dominic and I were keeping things civil, but it didn’t feel real. It was the fake kind of politeness that meant the atmosphere stayed pleasant for Tilly’s sake, but lurking underneath was a fight waiting to happen. Or if not a fight, at least an excruciatingly uncomfortable conversation.
When Dominic dropped me at my parents’ house, I sprung out of the car as if I’d been launched from a catapault.
Lol, yay for run-on sentences! That's all for today, but don't forget to come back on Tuesday when you'll get the first glimpse of the If I Let You Go cover!

Thank you so much for all of your help yesterday regarding cover reveals! There was really no doubt it - there should be two cover reveals!

So, today begins part 1 of the sign-ups!

I won't be doing a full-on blog tour for the release of my novella, I'm going to save that for Jesse's release, but if you want to post or blog about it when the time comes, I will greatly appreciate it. :D

The novella is called If I Let You Go - something I forgot to mention yesterday because I was still faffing about with choosing a title lol! And the release date will be October 22nd. I figure that's a good time as it is the same week as my *cough* 30th *cough* birthday!

Wednesday Musings - Cover Reveal Question and Game On Book 2 Release Date!

I wrote the title, than had to actually check I got the day right! It's one of those weeks where all the days seem to blur together!

I've been kind of quiet lately in regards to what I've been working on - so I figured I'd catch you all up and then pose a question.

Those of you who have been following me for a while will know that I plan to have the next book in the Game On series published in November. The official release date will be November 19th - and I think there will be another blog tour around that time too! I intend to plan it WAY in advance because with Christmas approaching - people usually get busy! Ideas are already forming - so I will keep you posted on that.

I've also been working on a novella which I've been mentioning randomly while giving little to no indication of what it's about! So, here's the synopsis:

Madison Connor is about to lose it. Her job, that is. For three years, she’s taken care of Dominic Hartley’s five year old daughter, Tilly, but her world is flipped on its head when Dominic tells her his latest promotion is taking him to New York. With Tilly having a meltdown over the move, Madison and Dominic get into a fight that changes the entire nature of their relationship, causing Madison to ask herself a big question. Can she let him go?

Yeah, it needs some work :p But you get the idea! Feel free to ask questions or let me know how I can make it better! I plan to release this - hopefully - in October sometime. :)

But before I release these books - I need to do cover reveals. Here comes the question!

Should I do two separate cover reveals - or both at the same time (just in case people get sick of seeing me everywhere! :p ) Let me know what you think in the comments! :D

Title: Strength
Series: Mark of Nexus – Book 1
Publisher: Sapphire Star Publishing
Category: New Adult (NA)
Genre: Paranormal Romance (PNR)
Release Date: March 07, 2013

When college student Rena Collins finds herself nose-to-chest with the campus outcast, her rumor-laced notions are shattered. Handsome, considerate, and seemingly sane, Wallace Blake doesn’t look like he spends his nights alone, screaming and banging on the walls of his dorm room. Hell, he doesn’t look like he spends his nights alone, period.

Too curious for her own good, Rena vows to uncover the truth behind Wallace’s madman reputation—and how two seconds of contact had left her with bruises. Of course, there are a few minor setbacks along the way: guilt, admiration, feelings of the warm and fuzzy variety…

Not to mention the unwanted attention of Wallace's powerful, supernaturally-gifted family.

They’re a bloodline divided by opposing ideals, two soon-to-be warring factions that live in secret among us. When Rena ends up caught in their crossfire, Wallace has no choice but to save her by using his powers. Now they’re really in trouble. With war on the horizon and Rena’s life in the balance, he needs to put some distance between them. But Rena won’t let go. If fighting is what it takes to prove her own strength and keep Wallace in her life, then that’s what she’ll do—even if it means risking a whole lot more than her heart.

Where to find Carrie:

Where to find Strength:

How amazing does this sound?? Good luck with your novel, Carrie, I cannot wait until it hits the shelves! <3 nbsp="nbsp" p="p">

Aaand for something a little different! M.Pax, Laura Eno, Brinda Berry and Ciara Knight are hosting the What's Your Chocolate Fest today, to celebrate the wonderfulness that is chocolate!

So ... asking me to choose a favourite chocolate is a bit like asking Joey from Friends a tough maths question - a challenge!

However, I can narrow it down a little! Since I was a kid, I've had a strong fondness for Galaxy bars. The smooth, velvety texture gets me EVERY TIME! I also have a thing for Cadbury's Creme Eggs. I cannot posibly walk past a display of Creme Eggs without buying one. Or ... six. And also, Thornton's chocolates are just about the best thing in the world! They tend to be a bit more expensive than ordinary chocolate - but so worth the money!

Follow the linky above to hop around to the other participants, and find out their fave choccy goodies!

Six Sentence Sunday - A Look At My New Novella!

Hey guys!

It's time for Six Sentence Sunday, and I thought I'd use it to give you a peek into my new novella - loosely titled "If I Let You Go." I don't know for sure when it will be released because it hasn't gone out to my CPs yet but if all goes well, it shouldn't be too long!

Synopsis: Madison Connor is about to lose it.

(Possibly not the official synopsis, but it will do for now!)

Erica had asked me a million times. Madison, are you sure you’re just the child minder? He pays you a lot of money for doing hardly anything. Pushing aside the blatant insinuation that I was his weekend whore, I’d always told her the absolute truth. He’d never so much as looked at me inappropriately, let alone anything more. He wasn’t like that.
