CampNaNo Fail, and Mini Blog Tour Update

Hey everyone!

It feels like 100 years since I wrote a new post! Just wanted to say that I have been OVERWHELMED with all the support for the Game On Blog Tour!Thank you so much to all of you who have offered to host me. I actually cannot believe how many people have leapt on board! I will be contacting everyone who signed up this week. Enormous thanks to everyone who has already responded to my emails - you guys are amazing! If you are planning to participate, or just want to show some Game On love, I have created a contest for you, which you can read fill details of here.

I have to confess that I failed at CampNaNo. Probably shouldn't have tried while editing a book and getting it ready for publication, but I do like a challenge lol. However, I do have 30, 000 words so it doesn't feel like quite so much of a failure. That's 30,000 words more than I had a month ago, so I'm pretty happy.

Jesse Shaw's story has been a whole lot of fun to write. I never expected to love this story as much as I do, but I feel a little buzz when I sit down to write it. Honestly, it is writing itself which I love. The one thing I keep finding is that one of my characters keeps rejecting her name. I called her Willow because it really suits her personality, but every time I write her name, I start typing Pippa instead. What is up with that? Do I stick with my original choice, or go with the name that keeps jumping into my head?

Finally, and most awesomely, I wanted to give a shout out to the wonderful Christine Rains. During the A-Z challenge, Christine created the most brilliant story, and soon it will be available to buy! She just revealed the cover for Fearless, which you can see here. Seriously, check it out, it's fab!

Okay, that's enough chatter from me! Have a great day everyone!

  1. Congrats. 30,000 words is good chunk if you ask me. So I wouldn't consider that a fail at all. I fell 10,000 words short of a 60,000-word goal back in February, and it felt like a failure at the time. But looking back today, I realize that some of my best words were written during that challenge.

Good luck with the blog tour. I'll definitely be following and cheering from the sidelines. :)

    1. I agree, it's not really a fail, but I would have liked to have done better. But it IS better than no words at all!

      Thank you! :D

  2. That's still a good amount of words! I won't make it for BuNo either, but I have a great start on my next book.
You're going to have fun on your tour.

  3. 30,000 words is brilliant and a huge head start. I always find starting is the hardest part so you've more than done that.

I'd be tempted to change Willow's name to Pippa if that's what she really wants. But only because I like the name. If she'd renamed herself something ludicrous, my answer might be different.

    1. Starting is definitely a challenge!

LOL, I have reasons for not wanting to use the name "Pippa" but ... I will see how things go as I progress with the story.

  4. So torn...but will go team Radleigh, just cause he's awesome to look at ;)

  5. How am I supposed to choose??? I like Leah better, but... Radleigh's so cute (seriously, I'm crazy about his hair)! Hmm...

  6. 30000 words is a brilliant start, but the main thing is you're enjoying it! That's what it's all about. I went Team Leah, because I'd rather have a hot chick on my blog than a hot dude. (Shallow, I know.) And I do like her more!

LOL, that's as good a reason as any!

  7. 30,000 words is great! I would go with Pippa; it sounds to me like she wants to name herself. :)

Good luck with your blog tour!

    1. I would usually agree, but I much prefer the name Willow lol. If she continues to fight me, I will change it though!

      Thanks Dana!

  9. Re the character's name change - if you're typing something different, go with it.

Those graphics are great - my choice is obvious. When do we put them up? Is it for the post, or for the sidebar?

    1. Ick ... I know you're right but I don't wanna change it lol!

Sorry for not being clearer, the explanation of what to do has been added now! :D

  12. 30,000 words is still awesome! And thank you very much for the shout out. I'm blushing. As for the name change for your character, sometimes my characters do that too. They won't give you a choice until you change the name!

Fantastic idea for your blogfest! :) Cool badges.

  14. You did something for Camp NaNoWriMo, and you got over halfway, while editing and preparing for a book launch. That deserves applause and confetti

  17. I just took a badge, hope you don't mind. :) 30,000 words is a fantastic amount! I wish I could get that much written in a month. I shoot for 20K.

    1. Not at all, that's why they're there! :D

20K is a good goal - it's much more doable than trying to force out 50K!

  18. I'd go with the name that sticks in your head. Your brain is trying to tell you something & you shouldn't ignore it. :-)

30k is better than 0 (or 29,999 lol) & any writing is fabulous! Congrats on that!

    1. That is very much the advice I'd give to other writes lol, but I REALLY love the original name I chose. I'll keep going and see what she tells me to do! :D

      Lol, thank you!

  19. 30,000 is definitely an amazing accomplishment!! Don't be disappointed. I finished Nano but I wasn't doing anything else and I had to put everything on hold (including blogging) to do it. Congrats on the 30,000! Looking forward to reading your story when it comes out :)

IWSG: Performance anxiety

Welcome to the August edition of IWSG, hosted by the amazing Alex J.Cavanaugh ! So, as most of you know by now - because I haven't shut up about it LOL - my first novel, Game On, has been released. The blog tour officially starts next week (YAY!) but I find myself becoming increasingly nervous. A blog tour not only highlights my book, but me. What if people don't like me? What if my guest posts suck, and everyone thinks I'm boring? If I can't engage people in 300 words on a blog, they probably aren't going to pick up my book. And then there's the "what happens next" question. I plan to make Game On into a series, which feels a bit arrogant of me. I don't know how many people are going to like the first book, should I really be planning to keep the series going? So far, Game On has actually been incredibly well received. I've had great reviews, so maybe I shouldn't worry about people not liking it, but what if Book Two isn't as goo

Dust It Off Bloghop!

Welcome to day one of the Dust It Off Bloghop, hosted by Theresa Paolo and Cortney Pearson ! This hop is all about the WIPs you wrote, and then shelved! Okay, so I am teaming up with Clare Dugmore for this one, because back in 2006 - yup, we've known each other THAT long lol! - we started to write a book together. Unfortunately, other commitments got in the way and we never finished it - but even so many years on - it's still something we remember fondly, so we're going to dust it off for you! The first day, May 3rd: We want you to post a 1-2 sentence pitch (Great way to practice pitches) about the shelved WIP. Here is the pitch Clare and I came up with: For best friends Caitlin and Tori, their first acting job out of Uni opens up a whole new world for them – unfortunately, it wasn’t the world they were expecting. When the strains of adult life and tangled relationships threaten to ruin their friendship, they are forced to take a look at what’s really importan
