L is for Leave

My plan for the A - Z Challenge is to write every post as if it were a diary entry by a character from my WIP. Today's post comes from Miguel Vega.

**

Today was my last day at work before I go on leave for three weeks. My Grandma's really sick, so I'm flying to  Portugal with my family first thing in the morning so we can all say goodbye to her.

Portugal has been my second home my whole life. I grew up in L.A but my summers were always spent in Portugal with my Grandma. She's the last of our family who still lives there, so this trip is going to be tough. Saying goodbye to her, and having our last moments there with her.

I feel okay about it. She's ninety-five years old, and led an incredible life, so even though I hate that we're losing her, I know that every day of her life was filled with love and happiness. It's hard to be sad about that.

Maybe it's really lame for a thirty-five year old man to admit this, but I want a life just like hers. A great marriage, great kids and to put everything I have into making those relationships work.

Look at me, getting sentimental. I need to go to bed. Tomorrow's going to be a long day.

**

P.S I am going to be out for the day so I won't be commenting much, but I'll be back on track tomorrow! Have a great weekend, and thanks so much for all your comments!

  3. Poor Miguel, having to say goodbye to his Grandma. I think he is as far from Radleigh as possible.

  4. I like him. I have so many fond memories of my grandma. This piece reminds me of that. :)

  9. This really hits home. I lost my grandma this fall and I don't want to go back to her farm. I want to tuck it neatly in my memory banks as it was; not how it is.

  12. I lost my mother this past year and this summer will fly out to Oregon to go through what remains in storage. It will probably be the last trip to the Pacific NW I ever take.

  13. Oh, this is def. something I can relate to myself. Saying goodbye isn't easy but sometimes you have to go in with that mentality.

Have fun on your 'day off'!

  15. He sounds like a lovely guy! Good that he's getting a chance to say goodbye. 95 is a fine age, and Portugal is a beautiful country!

  17. Such a hard trip for you. Wrap all your memories in a book, and then we can enjoy them, too.

  18. I've always wanted to visit Spain, but Portugal would be cool too! Way for him to get in touch with his emotional side.

  21. Another great post. I really related to this one, because my Grama died in August and it was so hard saying goodbye to her. She was 99, and she lived a happy, full life, and I want to have a life like hers, too. :-)

  22. I'm sorry to hear about your Grandma. It is a grand age she has reached. I lost my grandmother in her nineties. It is hard and I hope you take care of yourself and your family at this time.

IWSG: Performance anxiety

Welcome to the August edition of IWSG, hosted by the amazing Alex J.Cavanaugh ! So, as most of you know by now - because I haven't shut up about it LOL - my first novel, Game On, has been released. The blog tour officially starts next week (YAY!) but I find myself becoming increasingly nervous. A blog tour not only highlights my book, but me. What if people don't like me? What if my guest posts suck, and everyone thinks I'm boring? If I can't engage people in 300 words on a blog, they probably aren't going to pick up my book. And then there's the "what happens next" question. I plan to make Game On into a series, which feels a bit arrogant of me. I don't know how many people are going to like the first book, should I really be planning to keep the series going? So far, Game On has actually been incredibly well received. I've had great reviews, so maybe I shouldn't worry about people not liking it, but what if Book Two isn't as goo

Dust It Off Bloghop!

Welcome to day one of the Dust It Off Bloghop, hosted by Theresa Paolo and Cortney Pearson ! This hop is all about the WIPs you wrote, and then shelved! Okay, so I am teaming up with Clare Dugmore for this one, because back in 2006 - yup, we've known each other THAT long lol! - we started to write a book together. Unfortunately, other commitments got in the way and we never finished it - but even so many years on - it's still something we remember fondly, so we're going to dust it off for you! The first day, May 3rd: We want you to post a 1-2 sentence pitch (Great way to practice pitches) about the shelved WIP. Here is the pitch Clare and I came up with: For best friends Caitlin and Tori, their first acting job out of Uni opens up a whole new world for them – unfortunately, it wasn’t the world they were expecting. When the strains of adult life and tangled relationships threaten to ruin their friendship, they are forced to take a look at what’s really importan
